Who knew?

Well, probably many of you knew Mexico could look like this, but Nichole and I were surprised! This was taken as we left San Cristobal de las Casas, headed toward Ocosingo.

Two teachers, three weeks, a few massive heads and some tiny mosquitoes!

We're middle school teachers, and in July, 2011, we flew from Wisconsin to Tapachula, Mexico--which is just about as far south as you can go on the Pacific coast. From there, we had a three week trek across the southern region of Mexico: mountains, markets, museums, modern Mayans, and our own personal unraveling of those mysterious heads.

Along the way, we met some amazing people, saw some spectacular sites, ate some delicious food, and collected all kinds of things to share with our students and colleagues. Many of these pieces came together as we created an intro to ancient civilizations unit called Cabezas Colosales; e-mail us if you're interested!
